Yankee Freedom Ferry Ride to Fort Jefferson – Dry Tortugas National Park – Dry Tortugas, Florida – 09/11/2011

Exploring the Dry Tortugas National Park spent many years in one of the highest spots on my Bucket List!

And we finally decided to make it a reality!

The first step of your Dry Tortugas adventure, is getting there!

One option is a Seaplane.

The most popular option is the Yankee Freedom Ferry Ride!

The Yankee Freedom high speed catamaran leaves out of Key West, and takes you the 70 miles to Fort Jefferson in high class surroundings!

The boat remains docked at Fort Jefferson, and you can utilize its services throughout the day.

If you are just up for a Day Visit, you can spend your time venturing around the fort and snorkeling, and then head back to Key West in time for dinner.

If you’re up for an all out Tropical Adventure, you can camp on the island for up to 3 nights!

And if you opt for that, once the ferry leaves, you have the entire island to yourself!

And I mean that literally!

There are just a handful of campsites on the island, and only a few campers will remain.

Or, if you totally luck out, like we did, you might just be THE ONLY people left on the island!

An entire island to yourself?

Yes!! Oh, yes!

But, first, here’s a few shots of the ride out!

And a handful of posts to come highlighting the rest of our adventures!

Check them all out!
