As a kid, I was always kind of “taught” that deserts are hot places.
Part of the beauty of traveling is unlearning a few of the misinformations you grew up believing.
The primary definition of a desert has more to due with the lack of precipitation than the temperature itself, although, during some seasons, the conditions can parallel one another.
But, deserts can indeed get cold, especially at night, during any season.
Either way, though, hot or cold, dry or wet, it remains a visually intriguing juxtaposition to see snow covering the desert plains of Eastern New Mexico!
Apparently, we were coming through just a few days after a pretty heavy storm immobilized much of the Southwest.
Luckily, we didn’t experience any direct challenges to our travels…
But, we did get some pretty unique visual experiences as a result!
