Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site – St. Martinville, Louisiana – 02/15/2010

Nestled along the Bayou Teche, is the ever-romantic home of the story of Evangeline.

One of my favorite love stories ever, and one we have traveled far and wide to honor while experiencing the history of the Acadian People, from Nova Scotia, into Southern Louisiana, and beyond…

We’ve also visited multiple sites preserving the history of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow himself.

Here in St. Martinville, the Evangeline Oak is the legendary meeting place of lovers, Evangeline and Gabriel.

Evangeline is believed to be buried at the St. Martin of Tours Church.

If you want to know the entire story of everything in between, you have to read the epic poem yourself!

And I highly recommend that you do.
