This Bavarian-themed village boasts fun German drinks, snacks, and desserts; as well as bountiful German meals. The streets are lined with adorable shops, boasting unique wares from artisans, both local and afar. Woodcarving, wood-burning, glass-blowing, and candy-making… Just to name a few! Fort Smith, Arkansas has a LOT going on! From its unique history, including its role in the policing of the 19th century Western Frontier, to its position as a modern day Street Art Hot Spot… Craft Breweries, Delicious Restaurants, Local Shops… Countless parks, statues, museums, memorials and more, all paying homage to its people, past and present… Here are just a few random shots as we walked the different parts of town!

Such a cute little shop that I’d never noticed before! It’s right next to our favorite restaurant, but tucked back into the corner. The employee told me the owner has been in this location for over 30 years! She was very kind, and helped us choose a handmade wooden tulip, in Ribby Purple, for our souvenir. We’ll definitely come back when we can spend a little more time picking out some delicious Dutch chocolates and desserts! They all looked so YUMMY! And on an interesting note, never before in my life had I heard of Stroopwafel until I saw it…

I have a peculiar obsession with glassblowing. Over the years I have thoroughly enjoyed collecting a variety of glasswork along our travels. So, it’s safe to say, I can’t visit Helen without stopping by this quaint shop to peruse the brightly colored wares that make my heart ever-so-happy. I am absolutely FASCINATED by watching the live demonstrations of glassblowers performing their unique sort of magic; and I could stand for hours, completely mesmerized, as they craft their gorgeous works of art!

Heading back to the Tennessee House from an afternoon appointment in Cookeville, I decided to take advantage of the lovely day and cruise home the scenic route instead of just jumping on I-40. What a cool experience for a kid that has enjoyed collecting knives over the years! We did not arrive in time for the actual factory tour; but we still had access to a viewing platform overlooking the production floor, as well as exhibits detailing the company’s history. We spent some time perusing the beautiful options in the gift shop, and scored some GREAT deals on “slightly imperfect” knives. We would love to return some day to enjoy the full tour experience. We never really knew what cheese curds were… And, I guess, I still really don’t! But, wow, they ARE delicious! And they make a great road snack to munch on while traveling the highways and byways of the State of Wisconsin. The folks at Humbird Cheese were super-friendly, and they seem to have the reputation of being THE place to stop along I-90/94 for all your cheese shopping needs! Tucked away in a quaint little corner of Northwest Michigan, in the Lake Michigan coastal community of Petoskey, you will find the headquarters of Kilwins Chocolates! One of my absolute favorite things to do in a city is to relax and enjoy a carriage ride! I find them to be incredibly affordable, and a good value for the information your personal guide will share with you along the route. A little local lore, mixed in with some unique historical facts. You may very well get into side streets or tighter alleys that you might not otherwise access via car or on foot.
