The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village – Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada – 06/09/2018

As a self-proclaimed history buff, one of my absolute favorite activities is exploring a Living History Attraction. As a family, we always do our best to really get into the groove… Engaging with interpreters in period costume and dialect, studying the details of daily routines, admiring architectural nuances… We love perusing old tools, accessories, crafts, handiworks, and products, pretending they are our own, and imagining life as if we were truly present in another time and place! Allen Ruppersberg: Intellectual Property 1968 – 2018A Special Exhibit at the Walker Art CenterMinneapolis, Minnesota From the late 1960’s onward, Conceptual Artist Allen Ruppersberg has truly changed the way we look at art. His earlier installations, such as Al’s Cafe and Al’s Grand Hotel, combine text and images to take the viewer on a participatory journey through his own personal narratives. Some of his later projects pull inspiration from a variety of media, such as commercial letterpress posters, ephemera, books, drawings, and films. His cynical views of mass media, as well as his often contemptuous self-portraiture, are likely to instigate thought-provoking introspection…

Tales of the Moss People – An Exhibition by Kim Simonsson at the American Swedish Institute – Minneapolis, Minnesota – 05/24/2018

Of all the art and sculpture exhibits with which we have engaged along our travels, this collection stands out the most. The day’s simple plan started out as just another trip to a museum. But, what actually transpired once we entered the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, was a fantastic journey into realms previously unimagined. It’s hard to describe the eerie sense of disquietude that washes over you while sharing space with The Moss People. Sculptures of young children, coated in green, earthen imperfection, existing amongst post-apocalyptic ruins, far beyond the depths of conventional dimensions. As you step slowly amongst…

Exploring The Field Museum – Chicago, Illinois – 05/16/2018

The most important thing to keep in mind when visiting The Field Museum in Chicago, is that it is a LOT bigger than it looks on the outside! You can certainly walk through at a quicker pace and SEE it all in one day. But, over the years, we’ve found our groove with focusing on one section at a time, and allowing ourselves the unpressured time to read the signage;…

But, living with that has never been easy for him. I can’t even begin to fathom for one second what it must be like for those that don’t have the happy ending for…
